Sense of the North

Day 1 Barcelona

Meet & greet at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Dinner is at leisure. Your tour director will suggest a local restaurant close by the hotel. Overnight.

Day 2 Barcelona

Stroll the cobbled streets of Barcelona´s Gothic quarter with a local expert.  Meet with a local chef at the market and discover some of the secrets of Spanish ingredients and then stop by the kitchen with your new ingredients. You will use these to cook your own dinner this evening at a master cooking class!  The welcome dinner will be served after the class. Overnight.  (BD)

Day 3 Barcelona

A day to discover local Catalan producers. Explore the flavours of Catalan cuisine through wine cellars, artisan food producers, fishermen and renowned local chefs. Rest of the day is at leisure back in Barcelona.  Overnight. (BL)

Day 4 Barcelona - Zaragoza - La Rioja

We depart today for Rioja, the capital of Spain wine making. Stop in Zaragoza and visit some Ancient Roman ruins, the first Marian church in Christendom, and fabulous art museums. Continue to Rioja. Enjoy a degustation dinner at your hotel paired with wines.  Overnight.  (BD)

Day 5 La Rioja

Today we discover the wine region of Rioja. Visit one of the most beautiful towns of Rioja, La Guardia, where we'll stop to taste a traditional pintxo. Continue to Bodegas Bilbainas, a centennial Winery with historical buildings which boasts 3,000m of underground cellars. Taste their varieties followed by a BBQ lunch amongst their vineyards, a unique experience you'll enjoy with your fellow travellers. In the afternoon, we'll visit one of Rioja's wine Temples, Marques de Riscal. A private visit of their land and installations will certainly impress.  Overnight. (BL)

Day 6 La Rioja - Pamplona - La Rioja

Visit the old town of Pamplona on a historical walk.  Stroll through Saint James Way and the paths of the San Fermin Bull run and finish at a traditional market for a cheese and pacharan liqueur tasting experience. We suggest a Pintxos lunch amongst the locals. Dinner will be at leisure back at the town of your hotel.  Overnight. (B)

Day 7 La Rioja - San Sebastian - Bilbao

Today we discover one of the most elegant of European cities, San Sebastian. Stroll through the old town of Donosti, (San Sebastian in Basque) and La Playa de la Concha. Discover and taste the sophisticated Pintxos in the Casco Antiguo. Continue to Bilbao. Once in Bilbao, we suggest a visit to the famous Guggenheim museum.  Overnight. (BL)

Day 8 Bilbao - Plentzia Bay - Castro Urdiales - Picos de Europa

Visit the first underwater winery in the world with over 8 year’s research in underwater wines. The results at Bahia Plentzia are limited-edition underwater wines of extraordinary quality. Take a boat trip to discover where the winery is located while tasting their wines. Stop in the old fishing village of Castro Urdiales for a slow pace walk. Dinner will be at Parador of Cangas de Onis, your accommodation for the next 2 nights.  Overnight. (BD)

Day 9 Picos de Europa - Ribadesella - Picos de Europa

Visit the sanctuary of Covadonga in the Picos de Europa National Park, where history, spirituality and nature come together. After some time at leisure, we continue to Ribadesella. In Ribadesella visit the historical harbour with its six ceramic murals, painted in blue and sepia, which tell the story of Ribadesella from Prehistory to the present day. Return to Cangas de Onis. Dinner will be served at your Parador this evening.  Overnight.  (BD)

Day 10 Picos de Europa - Ribadeo - Santiago de Compostela

We farewell the Picos de Europa and continue along the Northern Spanish coast. Stop in Ribadeo and visit the impressive Playa de las Catedrales and the Porcillán marina. Continue to Santiago and to the Parador de Santiago, our home for the next 2 nights. Enjoy a welcome dinner at the Parador.  Overnight. (BD)

Day 11 Santiago de Compostela

Today some 300,000 Camino pilgrims venture here each year, following the Route of St James. This city is also the capital of the Spanish region of Galicia, with a strong local character – a place where the sound of bagpipes wafts across plazas and the countless restaurants and bars specialise in fine Galician seafood and local wines. Dinner at Parador after an afternoon at leisure.  Overnight. (BD)

Day 12 Santiago de Compostela - Vigo - Porto

We farewell Santiago bound for Porto in Portugal. Stop in Vigo and visit Castro Fortress. Lunch will be at a local restaurant to taste the outstanding Galician seafood. Continue to Porto, arriving in the late afternoon. Overnight. (BL)

Day 13 Porto

Visit the heritage town of Porto, voted best European destination in 2017. Set beside the Douro River and with an old tradition in port wine making, Porto has dramatic landscapes and was World Heritage listed by the UNESCO in 2001. Discover the town and take a cruise along the Douro.  Stop by the hill vineyards and enjoy Port wine tasting. Afternoon is at leisure to enjoy its many cobble streets. Overnight. (B)

Day 14 Porto - Tomar - Lisboa

On the way to the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, we will stop at Tomar. Founded by the Knights Templar in the 12th century and a UNESCO site, we will visit its impressive Aqueduct, Castello and Old Town. Continue to Lisbon. With its attitude, dramatic architecture, great cuisine and cobble streets full of action, Lisbon is without a doubt, one the most exciting destinations in the World. Enjoy a walking tour along Avenida Liberdade. Farewell dinner will be served at local restaurant.  Overnight. (BD)

Day 15 Lisboa

After a beautiful experience travelling the Iberian Landscapes, we farewell Lisbon and our fellow travellers. Transfer to the airport or to your next destination.
