Treasures of Spain with Barcelona Extension

Day 1 Madrid

Arrival at the airport and private transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. This evening, enjoy a welcome soft drink (1900hrs) and orientation with our hostess and traveling companions. Overnight at hotel Innside Madrid Luchana 4* or similar.

Day 2 Madrid - Toledo - Madrid

Breakfast. Morning guided city tour. Drive through the main avenues of the city, highlights include the magnificent fountains of Neptune and Cibeles, the Alcala Gate, and the Plaza de España. We will visit inside the spectacular Royal Palace which is still in use for Goverment ceremonies. This afternoon, travel south to Toledo, the capital of Spain during several centuries. In XIII and XIVth centuries, Muslim, Jews and Christians populations lived together peacefully becoming as a great cultural center. We will walk along it’s narrow streets visiting the Cathedral from outside and St tome Church inside (where we can admire El Greco's masterpiece). Return to Madrid. Overnight at hotel Innside Madrid Luchana 4* or similar.

Day 3 Madrid - La Mancha - Granada

Breakfast. Depart Madrid and journey to Aranjuez for a short stop to see the magnificent gardens of the old summer residence of the Spanish kings. Continue south through Don Quixote’s land of La Mancha, where we will stop and visit a traditional wine producer who will explain the elaboration and production methods as well as the influence of the moon and stars on the biology of the vineyards Finish the visit with a tasting of 3 different tapas of ham, local cheese and bread. Continue south to Granada. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Gran Hotel Luna 4* or similar

Day 4 Granada - Sevilla

Breakfast. Morning tour of La Alhambra, the fabulous palace from where the last Caliph Boabdil defended the diminishing Moorish lands of 'Al-Andalus'. We will visit halls and patios of amazing beauty as well as visiting Generalife gardens with its numerous fountains. Afternoon Departure by coach to Sevilla. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Sevilla Center 4* or similar

Day 5 Sevilla

Breakfast. Morning tour to visit inside the Gothic Cathedral, the largest in Spain and third in the world. You can walk up the Giralda tower (striking minaret of the former mosque) to have superb views across the city. We will then head to the Santa Cruz Quarter, which was once a Jewish quarter. The area is a maze of small alleys and small squares, filled with orange trees and outdoor restaurants. In the afternoon you will enjoy an introductory and practical Flamenco dancing lesson with a professional dancer. Optional: Professional flamenco show/performance. Dinner and overnight.

Day 6 Sevilla - Córdoba - Madrid

Breakfast. This morning visit and Andalusian horse farm (yeguada) to see a normal day of training and lear about the breeding and training of these amazing horses. Afterwards, departure to Cordoba. An ancient Roman city, Cordoba was an important provincial capital, but gained its real reputation in culture, being the most important caliphate in the Occident. Guided tour of Cordoba, to visit the Mosque, truly unique, with a cathedral in its centre. Then, enjoy a walk through the Jewish Quarter, with its narrow streets and Andalusian "patios’’. Continue to Madrid and overnight at Hotel Innside Madrid Luchana 4* or similar.

Day 7 Madrid - Barcelona

Breakfast and transfer to Madrid airport or train station for your journey to Barcelona.  Arrival in Barcelona and private transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.
Perhaps you can visit the Plaza Catalunya and to walk along the ’Ramblas’ street where the popular and characteristic market of flowers and birds are. This area is full of people watching street-actors and musicians etc. Overnight at hotel Barcelona Center 4* or similar.

Day 8 Barcelona

Breakfast. At 0900hrs you will be met at your hotel to enjoy a walking tour with English speaking guide in the oldest downtown Barcelona, called the Gothic quarter. There we will visit the Boqueria Market we will see inside a modernist structure, the explosion of colors of the fruits, meat etc. Later we will follow to visit the Cathedral and in the maze of little streets around where we will find splendid palaces and some of the main institution buildings as the regional government and city hall. We will visit St.Maria del Mar in splendid Gothic art. We will finish the tour in Las Ramblas, the popular street full of street actors, sellers of flowers and birds etc. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight.

Day 9 Barcelona

Breakfast. Day at your own leisure to follow discovering this fascinating city or excursion to Monserrat, monastery located in a rocky mountain with a spectacular panoramic view (optional).  Overnight.

Day 10 Barcelona

Breakfast and transfer to Barcelona airport or train station.
