Porto, Minho & the Douro Valley

Day 1 Porto

Arrival at Porto airport and make you way to your hotel for check in. Overnight Porto.

Day 2 Porto - Guimarães

Breakfast. Today pick up your rental car. Your first day of travel takes you to the Minho region, a Portugal Northwestern province, including historic Guimaraes. Framed by gently rising hills, the town of Guimaraes is celebrated as the birthplace of the nation. Overnight Guimaraes.

Day 3 Guimarães - Braga - Guimarães

Breakfast. Full day to explore. In the afternoon you may like to head north to Braga for a visit. Verdant hills and a fertile valley brought inhabitants to Braga far back in prehistoric times. Braga remains the most devout and conservative city in Portugal, with churches on every corner. Visit the Cathedral (Sé) and the sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Braga with its monumental Baroque staircase. Return to Guimaraes for overnight.

Day 4 Guimarães - Felgueiras - Amarante - Mesao Frio

Breakfast. Today travel north via Felgueiras to Amarante for a brief visit. Amarante is a picturesque small town, with 16th, 17th and 18th Century houses, completed with wooden balconies and wrought iron grilles. Continue to Mesao Frio for overnight.

Day 5 Mesao Frio

Breakfast. Full day to sightsee. Boasting the beauty of 18th Century cloisters which house the local Town Hall and tourist office, the town of Mesao Frio is a peaceful introduction to the flourishing port wine-growing region. Overnight Mesao Frio.

Day 6 Mesao Frio - Peso da Régua - Lamego - Aveiro

Breakfast. Head south via the beautiful town of Peso da Regua and on to Lamego for a brief visit of the town. An attractive town within the demarcated port area, Lamego also produces wines, including Raposeira, Portugal’s premier sparkling wine. Continue throght Viseu to reach Aveiro. Overnight Aveiro.

Day 7 Aveiro - Porto

Breakfast. Morning to stroll round Aveiro, city of canals, known as the “ Portuguese Venice”, where you will see the graceful “moliceiros” boats and taste local sweet called “ovos moles”.
Finally continue back to Porto city /airport to drop off your rental car.
